Housing Energy Map

A crowd sourced map of Berlin/Germany showing the Energy Performance Certificate (Energieausweis) and total monthly rent of each building for a certain period of time.

Implementation

A Python script is used to monitor sites offering apartments for rent in Berlin. Continuously, new offers are added to the map and duplicates are removed or updated.

Background

For all new listings of flats and houses it is required to display the energy certificate in the offer. However, it's hard to find a certificate for a specific address. The map collects and stores the public information and provides a search interface.

Please note that there's a lot to criticise about the Energy Performance Certificate. However, the certificate is used as one of the criteria for increasing rents in Berlin for existing contracts.
